महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-217, verse-4

मातॄणां प्रेक्षतीनां च भद्रशाखश्च कौशलः ।
ततः कुमारपितरं स्कन्दमाहुर्जना भुवि ॥४॥
4. mātṝṇāṁ prekṣatīnāṁ ca bhadraśākhaśca kauśalaḥ ,
tataḥ kumārapitaraṁ skandamāhurjanā bhuvi.
4. mātṝṇām prekṣatīnām ca bhadra-śākhaḥ ca kauśalaḥ
tataḥ kumāra-pitaram skandam āhuḥ janāḥ bhuvi
4. While the mothers watched, and as Bhadraśākha and Kauśala (manifested), then people on earth called Skanda the father of the Kumāras.
