kumāra-di-nirodhatvāt laya-janmādi-bhañjanāt
aśeṣa-kula-sambandhāt kaulaḥ iti abhidhīyate

45. Because it checks the beginning of desire and other negative states, because it shatters dissolution, birth, and other cycles, and because it relates to the entire lineage, it is designated as kaula.
