तमृषय ऊचुः ।
परमं लोमहर्षणे प्रक्ष्यामस्त्वां वक्ष्यसि च नः शुश्रूषतां कथायोगम् ।
तद्भगवांस्तु तावच्छौनकोऽग्निशरणमध्यास्ते ॥३॥

3. tamṛṣaya ūcuḥ ,
paramaṁ lomaharṣaṇe prakṣyāmastvāṁ vakṣyasi ca naḥ śuśrūṣatāṁ kathāyogam ,
tadbhagavāṁstu tāvacchaunako'gniśaraṇamadhyāste.

3. The sages said to him: 'O Lomaharshana, we will ask you a most important question, and you shall narrate suitable stories to us, who are eager to listen. Meanwhile, the venerable Shaunaka is presiding over the fire-sanctuary.'
