वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-2, chapter-34, verse-24

न मामसज्जनेनार्या समानयितुमर्हति ।
धर्माद्विचलितुं नाहमलं चन्द्रादिव प्रभा ॥२४॥
24. na māmasajjanenāryā samānayitumarhati ,
dharmādvicalituṃ nāhamalaṃ candrādiva prabhā.
24. na mām asajjanena āryā samānayitum arhati |
dharmāt vicalitum na aham alam candrāt iva prabhā
24. O venerable lady, you should not equate me with an ignoble person. I am unable to deviate from my intrinsic nature (dharma), just as radiance cannot separate from the moon.
