महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-14, chapter-41, verse-2

अहंकारश्च भूतादिर्वैकारिक इति स्मृतः ।
तेजसश्चेतना धातुः प्रजासर्गः प्रजापतिः ॥२॥
2. ahaṁkāraśca bhūtādirvaikārika iti smṛtaḥ ,
tejasaścetanā dhātuḥ prajāsargaḥ prajāpatiḥ.

tejasaḥ cetanā dhātuḥ prajā-sargaḥ prajā-patiḥ
2. ahaṅkāraḥ ca bhūtādiḥ vaikārikaḥ iti smṛtaḥ.

2. And ego (ahaṅkāra) is considered the origin of the elements and is known as 'transformative' (vaikārika). From the luminous principle (tejas) comes the element of consciousness. Prajāpati is the creator of beings.
