स्वभावं स्वं विजित्यादाविन्द्रियाणां सचेतसाम् ।
प्रवर्तते विवेके यः सर्वं तस्याशु सिध्यति ॥ १ ॥

Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: He who, having first overcome his own inherent tendencies, particularly those of the conscious senses, then applies himself to discrimination (viveka), for him everything quickly succeeds.
