वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-3, chapter-43, verse-21

नैतच्चित्रं सपत्नेषु पापं लक्ष्मण यद्भवेत् ।
त्वद्विधेषु नृशंसेषु नित्यं प्रच्छन्नचारिषु ॥२१॥
21. naitaccitraṃ sapatneṣu pāpaṃ lakṣmaṇa yadbhavet ,
tvadvidheṣu nṛśaṃseṣu nityaṃ pracchannacāriṣu.
21. na etat citram sapatneṣu pāpam lakṣmaṇa yat bhavet
tvadvidheṣu nṛśaṃseṣu nityam pracchannacāriṣu
21. lakṣmaṇa! etat citram na (asti),
yat pāpam sapatneṣu bhavet; (api ca) tvadvidheṣu nṛśaṃseṣu nityam pracchannacāriṣu (api etat na citram).
21. O Lakṣmaṇa, it is not surprising that such wickedness should occur among rivals, especially among cruel individuals like you, who always move about secretly.
