महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-65, verse-62

सुकृच्छ्रामापदं प्राप्तश्चान्नदः पुरुषस्तरेत् ।
पापं तरति चैवेह दुष्कृतं चापकर्षति ॥६२॥
62. sukṛcchrāmāpadaṁ prāptaścānnadaḥ puruṣastaret ,
pāpaṁ tarati caiveha duṣkṛtaṁ cāpakarṣati.

pāpam tarati ca eva iha duṣkṛtam ca apakarṣati

62. A person who performs the giving of food (dāna) will overcome even a very severe calamity that he has encountered. He also overcomes sin in this very world, and diminishes his evil deeds.
