महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-65, verse-6

पितॄणां प्रथमं भोज्यं तिलाः सृष्टाः स्वयंभुवा ।
तिलदानेन वै तस्मात्पितृपक्षः प्रमोदते ॥६॥
6. pitṝṇāṁ prathamaṁ bhojyaṁ tilāḥ sṛṣṭāḥ svayaṁbhuvā ,

6. Sesame seeds were first created by the Self-existent One (Svayambhū) as food for the ancestors (pitṛ). Therefore, by the giving (dāna) of sesame seeds, the ancestral lineage is truly delighted.
