महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-65, verse-45

अग्नीनामव्ययं ह्येतद्धौम्यं वेदविदो विदुः ।
तस्माद्ददाति यो धेनुं स हौम्यं संप्रयच्छति ॥४५॥

45. Indeed, those who are learned in the Vedas understand that this is an imperishable offering (homa) to the fires. Therefore, whoever donates a cow truly bestows an offering (homa).
