महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-65, verse-10

पौष्टिका रूपदाश्चैव तथा पापविनाशनाः ।
तस्मात्सर्वप्रदानेभ्यस्तिलदानं विशिष्यते ॥१०॥
10. pauṣṭikā rūpadāścaiva tathā pāpavināśanāḥ ,
tasmātsarvapradānebhyastiladānaṁ viśiṣyate.
10. pauṣṭikāḥ rūpadāḥ ca eva tathā pāpavināśanāḥ
tasmāt sarvapradānebhyaḥ tiladānam viśiṣyate
10. pauṣṭikāḥ ca eva rūpadāḥ tathā pāpavināśanāḥ (santi).
tasmāt sarvapradānebhyaḥ tiladānam viśiṣyate
10. They (sesame seeds) are indeed strengthening and beauty-bestowing, and likewise, destroyers of sin. Therefore, among all gifts, the offering (dāna) of sesame seeds is considered superior.
