लकारश्चतुरस्रं स्यात्पृथ्वीबीजतया प्रिये ।
अर्धमात्रा तु कोदण्डं स्रवत्पीयूषवषीणी ॥३॥

3. O beloved, the letter la (lakāra) is the square, by virtue of being the earth seed-syllable (pṛthvī-bīja). The half-matra, on the other hand, is the bow (kodaṇḍa), which showers flowing nectar.
