Bearing quivers and bows in hand, and illuminating the ten directions, the two (Rama and Lakṣmaṇa) followed the great soul (mahā-ātman) Viśvāmitra. They resembled two three-headed serpents (pannagau), or the two mighty Aśvins following their grandfather (Brahmā).
