मन्त्रेणानेन शिशवे दद्यात् कृष्णाजिनान्वितम् ।
यज्ञोपवीतं दण्डञ्च वैणवं खादिरञ्च वा ।
पालाशमथवा दद्यात् क्षीरवृक्षसमुद्भवम् ॥१९७॥

197. mantreṇānena śiśave dadyāt kṛṣṇājinānvitam ,
yajñopavītaṁ daṇḍañca vaiṇavaṁ khādirañca vā ,
pālāśamathavā dadyāt kṣīravṛkṣasamudbhavam.

anena mantreṇa śiśave kṛṣṇājinānvitam yajñopavītam dadyāt,
vaiṇavam khādiraṃ ca vā daṇḍam dadyāt,
athavā pālāśam kṣīravṛkṣasamudbhavam (daṇḍam) dadyāt
vaiṇavam khādiraṃ ca vā daṇḍam dadyāt,
athavā pālāśam kṣīravṛkṣasamudbhavam (daṇḍam) dadyāt
197. With this mantra, one should give the boy the sacred thread accompanied by a black antelope skin. One should also give him a staff made of bamboo, khādira wood, palāśa wood, or derived from a milky tree.
