महानिर्वाण-तन्त्रम्       mahānirvāṇa-tantram - chapter-8, verse-262

यज्ञसूत्रशिखात्यागात् संन्यासः स्यात् द्विजन्मनाम् ।
शूद्राणामितरेषाञ्च शिखां हुत्वैव संस्क्रिया ॥२६२॥
262. yajñasūtraśikhātyāgāt saṁnyāsaḥ syāt dvijanmanām ,
śūdrāṇāmitareṣāñca śikhāṁ hutvaiva saṁskriyā.
262. yajñasūtraśikhātyāgāt saṃnyāsaḥ syāt dvijanmanām
śūdrāṇām itareṣāñca śikhāṃ hutvaiva saṃskriyā
262. dvijanmanām yajñasūtraśikhātyāgāt saṃnyāsaḥ syāt,
śūdrāṇām itareṣāñ ca śikhāṃ hutvā eva saṃskriyā (syāt)
262. renunciation comes for the twice-born through the abandonment of the sacred thread and the tuft of hair, whereas for śūdras and others, the ritual procedure consists simply of offering the tuft of hair into the fire.
