ऊर्ध्वत्वात् सर्वधर्माणामूर्ध्वाम्नायः प्रशस्यते ।
ऊर्ध्वं नयत्यधःस्थञ्च ऊर्ध्वाम्नाय इतीरितः ॥१७॥

17. ūrdhvatvāt sarvadharmāṇāmūrdhvāmnāyaḥ praśasyate ,
ūrdhvaṁ nayatyadhaḥsthañca ūrdhvāmnāya itīritaḥ.

ūrdhvam nayati adhaḥstham ca ūrdhvāmnāyaḥ iti īritaḥ

adhaḥstham ca ūrdhvam nayati iti ūrdhvāmnāyaḥ īritaḥ

17. Because it stands highest among all dharmas, the urdhvamnaya is praised. It leads upward that which stands below - thus it is called the urdhvamnaya, the upward tradition.
