सङ्गः सर्वात्मना त्याज्यः स चेत्त्यक्तुं न शक्यते ।
सद्भः सह स कर्त्तव्यः सतां सङ्गो हि भेषजम् ॥५६॥

56. saṅgaḥ sarvātmanā tyājyaḥ sa cettyaktuṁ na śakyate ,
sadbhaḥ saha sa karttavyaḥ satāṁ saṅgo hi bheṣajam.

saṅgaḥ sarvātmanā tyājyaḥ; saḥ tyaktum na śakyate cet,
saḥ sadbhiḥ saha kartavyaḥ,
hi satām saṅgaḥ bheṣajam (asti)

56. Attachment should be abandoned by every possible effort. But if it cannot be renounced, it should be cultivated in the company of the virtuous, for association with the good is indeed the medicine for worldly existence.
