ययेदं धार्यते सर्वं ब्रह्माण्डपरिमण्डलम् ।
वर्गाष्टकेन देवेशि सूते दिग्गजसंचयम् ।
तेनेयं करिणी प्रोक्ता मध्यमा शङ्खिनी भवेत् ॥८॥

8. yayedaṁ dhāryate sarvaṁ brahmāṇḍaparimaṇḍalam ,
vargāṣṭakena deveśi sūte diggajasaṁcayam ,
teneyaṁ kariṇī proktā madhyamā śaṅkhinī bhavet.

8. O goddess, by which all this universe in its entirety is sustained, and which through the eight groups produces the multitude of the elephants of the quarters, therefore she is called Kariṇī, while the middle one is Śaṅkhinī.
